Benjamin Holmes, LCSW

As one, of many, who had to spend an unhealthy amount of time away from his family in order to complete the 3000 clinical hours and 100 supervision hours required for his license, Benjamin has a passion for changing the way in which that process happens for others seeking their clinical licensure. Benjamin decided there should be another, less disruptive way for mental health professionals to meet these requirements. This decision led Benjamin to articulate the reason for which Benjamin Holmes Counseling exists:

“Benjamin Holmes Counseling exists to provide a vocational setting in which mental health professionals can build and maintain their careers according to their own values.”

Benjamin Holmes Counseling adheres to three guiding principles, which are designed to hold the organization to its stated mission.

  • Autonomy of the Professional

  • Support of the Professional

  • Promotion of the Professional

Benjamin is convinced that by sticking to these guiding principles he can create a culture in which mental health providers can flourish. His assumption is that if the therapists at Benjamin Holmes Counseling are well taken care of, those therapists will provide the best care possible to their clients.

BHC is built on a post-graduate education model that resembles that of the medical field. Resident Therapists, those with graduate degrees, but are pre-licensed, are provided in-house supervision by Attending Therapists, who hold licenses of LCSW or LPC-MHSP. Resident Therapists are supported through weekly supervision, biweekly staff meetings, and CEU offerings several times each year. Residents are also supported in the pursuit of specialized trainings such as EMDR, and Brain-spotting.
